Butter Button Cookies
Most adorable cookie you've ever seen? I know. Me too.
Not gonna lie, I didn't actually come up with the idea on my own. I saw some button cookies on Pinterest and I was just like, "whoa man. I gotta make me some of those."
Obviously I had to make them out of shortbread, because shortbread is pretty much as good as solid butter. Actually it's better than butter. I mean, nothing against plain butter, but nobody wants to eat button shaped butter chunks. Except my fourth grade teacher. She said that she used to sneak out of bed at night and eat sticks of butter for a midnight snack. Now that's gross. Even to me.
Besides, butter would be way to hard to shape into buttons anyways. So, add some flour and sugar to it and you're good to go.
We chose an off-brand bottle of soy sauce to shape our cookies, but any bottle will do. A pop bottle would work fine. That's Piggie modeling for me, by the way. She was a very helpful helper in the making of these fine cookies.

Butter Button Cookies
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons softened butter
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups flour
Preheat oven to 350ยบ. Cream together 3/4 cup of the butter and the sugar. Gradually work in the flour. Add the rest of the butter and mix until combined. Roll the dough into balls and line them up on a baking sheet. Flatten them slightly with your hands and then press them down a little with the top of a bottle. Poke four holes with the end of a paintbrush. Bake for about 17 minutes or just until the edges begin to brown.
When the cookies have cooled, you can dip the bottom in melted chocolate, melted frosting (like from a can), or browned butter glaze (recipe follows). Then roll it in some sprinkles and let harden on some parchment paper.
Browned Butter Glaze
Brown 3/4 cup of butter in a small saucepan on the stove. Be careful not to burn it. It will get foamy right before it starts to brown. Let it cool. Then add a teaspoon of vanilla. Add about 1/4 cup of powdered sugar at a time until desired consistency is reached. If it gets too thick, add 1/2 tablespoon of milk.
I think you should set some of these out for Santa in case he pops a few of his buttons on his gluttonous escapades on the big night.
